CHALLENGES

Full-height glazing for a day-lit atrium

JPW Architects designed 3PS to be distinguishable from other buildings in the Parramatta Square precinct. The single building’s facade is broken down into smaller, stacked glazed forms. This was achieved through changes in planes and multiple terraced articulations in the building envelope.

  • Expressing the architectural intent with a fully glazed atrium
  • Implementing concealed changes in facade plane alignment
  • Developing unique waterproof junction connections

The building incorporates a naturally lit central atrium—one of the largest of its kind in the country. The atrium features an external glazed wall with multiple floor voids, and is topped with a drained, panelised and glazed skylight system.

Development of interface details

We developed specific interface details for each expressed or recessed plane to ensure weatherproofing performance and visual continuity of the facade. We needed forward planning to develop sequencing that would ensure safe access to install the facade and weatherproofing works at each junction.
